St. Theresa’s CYO Basketball Program
Welcome to the Catholic Youth Organization Basketball Program website. This program will provide our parish children with the opportunity to participate in an organized, competitive basketball league sanctioned by the Westchester/Putnam CYO
We typically enter the following teams in the Westchester County Division:
Grade Level Girls Boys
3rd Grade Novices Rookies
4th Grade Gidgets Bantams
5th Grade Cadettes Small Frys
6th Grade Debs Tyros
7th Grade Junior Varsity Junior Varsity
8th Grade Varsity Varsity
This year the season is expected to begin on January 15th and will likey be 6-8 games long (vs. the normal 12). Season standings will determine playoff eligibility. The teams will be competing against other parishes in Westchester County and travel will be required. Games will be scheduled primarily on Saturday and Sundays. Occasionally there will be some weekday makeup games to reschedule the postponed games called off due to weather conditions.
Team Size/Playing Time
Due to the large number of players enrolled in the program, rosters on some of the teams will range from 12 to 14 players. Although we are pleased with the number of participants, it creates a difficult situation for the coaches and players. CYO Basketball is extremely competitive with no rules requiring each player’s minimum participation in every game. The coaches will do everything possible to make sure all players participate and have a positive experience as a team member. However, there can be no guarantees to the amount of playing time any one player will receive in the number of games played. Nor will there be any guarantee of time played within a game. There may be some parents and players who do not wish to invest time and money into the program if their child’s playing time is limited. Please discuss this situation with your child’s coach or coordinator.
Re-Registration for all returning 5th through 8th grade players, and registration for incoming 3rd and 4th grade boy and girl parishioners, will be online at www.sttcyobriarcliff.com.
We rely on the cooperation and assistance of all parents to run a successful CYO Season. Typically at each home game we rely on volunteers to collect admissions, sell refreshments, operate the game clock, keep the official book and clean up the gym at the conclusion of the game day. Each coach will coordinate the team’s designated day and time to support the program. This year the Covid protocols will dictate how we run the gym and we will update all parents once those guidelines are released by the CYO home office.
The fees for the program will be determined once we know the length of the season and will be commuincated to you at that time. For reference, fees for the 2019/2020 season were $225/parishioner and $275/non-parishioner with a $25 sibiling discount.
